How is a Typical Rehab Program conducted for Drug Treatment in Virginia

June 27, 2008

When a person checks in for drug rehab treatment in Virginia, there are some basic steps that are conducted by every rehab center, even though their basic policies of working may be different. Each treatment center in Virginia has its own methods of providing treatment and uses different medications to help people in coming out of the withdrawal they will face during the detox, but these basic four steps remain the same.

1.    The first phase in any rehab center in Virginia will be to get the person out of the denial process. Denial inevitably happens in every patient, but through careful counseling and family involvement this can be removed. An intervention program can be used if the family is not aware of how to deal with the denial situation.
2.    After that, the patient will be led into an analysis routine. His or her health and mental conditions will be looked into. The nature and extent of the addiction will be studied. This is an important part of the addiction treatment in Virginia because this is where the future course of the treatment will be decided.
3.    Thirdly, the patient will be led into a detox treatment. This could last from three days to three weeks. The main intention here is to biologically purge the toxins collected in the person’s body during the addicted phase of life. Withdrawal occurs here, which are medically mitigated.
4.    Finally, the patient will be put on maintenance medication in an aftercare setting. This aftercare program will also contain counseling on how to avoid any possibilities of a relapse.
