Methamphetamine Statistics-Some Figures to Mull over
April 27, 2008

The newest lifestyle drug in the party circuit, methamphetamine, has gained a lot of notoriety for being a highly addictive drug that is affecting both teens and adults alike. This is a drug with a great addictive power, as well as several nasty effects on the person’s health which definitely makes it a very lethal drug.
Methamphetamine is known by several street names. Some of the common named it is known by are chalk, speed, glass, ice, crystal meth, crystal or simply the popular shortened version, meth. The drug has become hugely infamous in parties and social groups of people who are together for recreational purposes.
It was studied in the year 2006 that about 1.9 millions of people from America had entered into a meth addiction, with every one of these people having used the drug at least once within the year. Alarmingly, the lowest age of persons into the meth addiction was 12 years. This study was conducted by the National Survey on Drug Use and Health.
Another study made by Monitoring the Future Study in 2007 indicated that 1.1% of people in the eighth grade, 1.6% of people in the tenth grade and 1.7% of people in the twelfth grade had used meth at least once in that particular year.
Both these statistics show that meth addiction is rampant in the lower age groups too, and it is not just a drug that caters to the adult population. The highly addictive nature of the drug will mean that these kids will not be able to give up the drug very easily unless they are located in a methamphetamine rehabilitation center.
