Substance Abuse Resources in Missouri-Problems faced by Children of Parents in Alcohol Abuse or Alcohol Addiction

May 17, 2008

Missouri has always been very concerned about its growing alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction problem, and a very serious part of this problem is the influence that alcoholism in parents can have on their children. Recent studies pertaining to alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse in Missouri suggest that at least 28 million of Americans have at least one parent who is into an alcohol habit, and that at least 50% of all the alcoholics in the nation have or had a parent who was into alcoholism too.

The rate of alcohol abuse in Missouri is one from every three families. It is true that if a child has an alcoholic parent, then there are very high chances that the child will become an alcoholic too. If not that, there could be a lot of other problems the child may have to contend with, such as violence at home, neglect and abuse, incest and exploitation and several other such troubling situations.Even the adult children of alcoholic parents in Missouri have to face growing up pangs, because they will be not quite sure about what healthy living means. These children may either become too isolated or they may become too aggressive. From years of neglect, they will find it very difficult to understand what real love and affection is and they may even feel guilty about themselves for the way things are going on at home.

Today, the repercussions on young minds due to alcoholic parents are an important aspect of the problem of alcohol addiction in Missouri. The state has begun to take some very stringent steps in battling with the situation.
